Cross of Love, Spiritual Monument in Batak Land
The Cross of Love is a spiritual monument located on Dolok (Bukit) Siatas Barita, North Tapanuli Regency, North Sumatra province. This monument was built to commemorate the services of a Christian missionary from Germany, Ingwer Ludwig Nommensen, who began his mission in Batak Land.
The Cross of Love is 28 meters high and is supported by three large pillars. This monument is located on a hill with beautiful views. From the top of the hill, visitors can see the vast expanse of Lake Toba and the surrounding hills.
Construction of the Cross of Love began on October 30 1993 and was inaugurated on Easter Sunday March 30 1997 by the Regent of North Tapanuli, Drs. Hold Mangaraja Halomoan Sinaga.
The Cross of Love is one of the popular spiritual tourist attractions in Indonesia. Every year,
this monument is visited by thousands of tourists from various regions, both local and foreign tourists.
Apart from being a tourist attraction, the Cross of Love is also a place of worship for Christians.
